Nationally Recognized Experts in Each Area of Specialization
The cancer specialists at the Lankenau Hospital Cancer Center have been pioneers in innovative and minimally-invasive treatments. Central to our treatment philosophy is our team approach to patient care. Each month, several clinical conferences are held where a multidisciplinary team discusses cancer patients and their treatment plans. Team members include:

  • Board certified medical and radiation oncologists and specialized surgeons.
  • Oncology-certified nurses providing patient-centered care.
  • Registered dietitians offering inpatient and outpatient dietary counseling.
  • Oncology social workers providing individual, family and group counseling services
  • Rehabilitation specialists.
  • A certified Genetic Counselor to assess cancer risks.

Treatment components may include:

  • Surgical Oncology. Surgeons affiliated with the Lankenau Cancer Center are among the best in the region and are known nationally for their pioneering and less invasive techniques. Lankenau is one of only a few cancer centers in the region to have board-certified and/or fellowship-trained surgical expertise in breast surgery, colorectal surgery, head and neck surgery, orthopedic oncology, urology, and gynecologic oncology.
  • Medical Oncology. Our experienced staff of board-certified medical oncologists works closely with the referring physician, the family, and other members of the treatment team to provide each patient with individualized care. Lankenau medical oncologists are actively involved in clinical and translational research, bringing patients the latest treatments available. Medical oncology services, which may include chemotherapy, are provided in a supportive and caring environment with specially trained oncology nurses.
  • Radiation Oncology. Today, more than half of all patients with cancer are treated with radiation therapy. At Lankenau, new advances in radiation oncology enable us to more precisely target tumors, while minimizing treatment side effects. The result is a more agressive approach to cancer treatments, with improved quality of life. Patients have access to clinical trials through Lankenau's participation in the Radiation Therapy Oncology Group (RTOG). The department is accredited by the American College of Radiology. Learn More About The Radiation Oncology Center!
  • Inpatient Oncology Unit. For patients requiring hospitalization, we offer a designated inpatient oncology unit staffed by nurses who are specially trained to care for cancer patients.

This multidisciplinary team approach to cancer care ensures that each patient has the benefit of the full scope of our expertise.
