Francisco Badosa, MD, FACS Program Director
As the director of the Lankenau Hospital Kidney Transplant Program and its transplant surgeon, Dr. Francisco Badosa is personally
involved in all aspects of preoperative, intraoperative and postoperative care, especially monitoring immunosuppression.
Dr. Badosa is a board certified surgeon who has been involved in organ transplant surgery for more than 30 years. He has extensive
experience in kidney transplantation as well as pancreas and liver transplantation.
A native of Barcelona, Spain, Dr. Badosa has lived and worked in Spain, France and the United States. From 1995 – 2002, he
served as the director of kidney and pancreas transplant at the Albert Einstein Medical Center. During his career, he has
performed more than 400 kidney transplants.
Dr. Badosa is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and is an Associate Professor of Surgery at Jefferson Medical College.
He has has published more than 50 papers in peer-reviewed journals and has made more than 100 presentations at national and
international meetings. Dr. Badosa has also been recognized by Philadelphia Magazine as a Top Doctor in 1996, 1999, 2002. Learn More!

Keith R. Superdock, MD, FACP Transplant Nephrologist
As a transplant nephrologist, Dr. Superdock will attend to your medical needs around the time of your transplant surgery.
This includes the management of dialysis, blood pressure and diabetes. Dr. Superdock will participate with Dr. Badosa in decisions
regarding medications used to prevent or treat rejection.
A United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS) credentialed transplant program director, Dr. Superdock has been with the Lankenau
Transplant Program since its inception in 1993. He is a graduate of the Jefferson Medical College of Thomas Jefferson University,
and completed his internship and residencies in Internal Medicine at Duke University. Dr. Superdock completed fellowships
in nephrology and transplant nephrology at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
Currently Dr. Superdock is an assistant professor of medicine at the Jefferson Medical College and serves as Section Chief,
Transplant Nephrology for the Main Line Health System. He was recognized by Philadelphia Magazine as a "Top Doctor" in 1996, 2000 and 2002. Learn More!

Dr. Shuin-Lin Yang, M.D. Surgeon
A specialist in the mini-incision for living donors (MILD) nephrectomy procedure, Dr. Yang is expert in using this minimally
invasive surgical technique to remove a kidney from a living donor.
Dr. Yang has been performing transplant surgeries in the Philadelphia area since 1983, and has worked at both Thomas Jefferson
University Hospital and the Albert Einstein Medical Center. He is certified by the American Board of Surgery. Learn More!

David McGinnis, M.D. Urologist
Dr. McGinnis is a leading specialist in laproscopic donor nephrectomy, a procedure for removing the kidney from a living donor
using a hand-assisted laproscopic technique.
Dr. McGinnis earned his undergraduate degree at Harvard University and his medical degree at the University of Texas. He received
his residency training at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, and completed a fellowship in Minimally Invasive Urologic
Oncology at the Jefferson Medical College of Thomas Jefferson University.
Certified by the American Board of Urology, Dr. McGinnis has one of the most extensive experiences with all kinds of urinary
laparoscopic surgery in the Delaware Valley. He currently works with the Bryn Mawr Urology group and is a Clinical Assistant
Professor of Urology at Thomas Jefferson University.

Sandra Cole Cantera, RN, BSN Transplant Coordinator
Sandy has been with the Lankenau Transplant Team since 1999. Previously, she worked as the Director of Transitional Care at
Bryn Mawr Hospital, and in Bryn Mawr Hospital’s Intensive Care Unit.

Laurel Lerner, RN Transplant Coordinator
Laurel joined the Lankenau Transplant Team after 14 years’ experience with the Albert Einstein Transplant Program. She has
more than 20 years experience in medical oncology, medical/surgical intensive care and outpatient organ transplants.
Transplant Coordinators are registered nurses who have special training and experience in transplant patients. The Transplant
Coordinator is the primary contact for the patient before and after transplant surgery, and provides assistance and guidance
to patients and their families throughout the transplant process, from evaluation through outpatient postoperative outpatient
care.
The Transplant Coordinator monitors the patient’s condition and provides other members of the transplant team with appropriate
information and test results. Additionally, the Transplant Coordinator ensures a link in providing continuity of care by communicating
information to the patient’s referring nephrologist and primary care physician.

Lisa Spoelker, MSW Transplant Social Worker
Lisa joined the Lankenau Transplant Team in 1998. Prior to joining Lankenau, she served as an adoption coordinator and therapist.
As a Transplant Social Worker, Lisa meets with transplant candidates during the evaluation process to discuss employment issues,
transportation needs, available support systems, the patient’s understanding of current health issues, and expectations for
the transplant. Lisa will be available to patients for emotional support or resource information at any point during the work-up
for transplant, and while patients are waitlisted, or post-transplant.

Jan McIlvaine Transplant Administrator
Jan has been a member of the Lankenau Transplant Team since 1998. Previously she served as the Business Manager of the University
of Pennsylvania Transplant Program – a position she held for 17 years. Currently, Jan serves on the Governor’s Renal Advisory
Board for the State of Pennsylavnia.
As the Transplant Program Administrator, Jan is responsible for all financial aspects of the program.
Part of the evaluation process for potential recipients is the financial interview. It is important that each candidate have
adequate resources to pay for the transplant and follow-up care. Follow-up care includes immunosuppressant medications, which
will be taken for as long as the transplanted kidney functions. Jan will meet with patients to help assess current insurance
and insurance needs. She will obtain any pre-authorizations required by you’re the patient’s insurance company prior to going
on the active list. It is the patient’s responsibility to make sure the Transplant Department has current insurance information.
After transplant, Jan helps patients with questions regarding their insurance needs and applications for assistance programs.
