Ophtalmic Diagnosic Services at Lankenau Hospital in suburban Philadelphia treats glaucoma, cataracts and other eye conditions. The Ophthalmic Diagnostic Services at Lankenau Hospital was established in 1972 when Fluoresceinangiography and an Argon Laser became available to diagnose and treat retinal diseases.

Today, four different lasers are available to treat glaucoma, capsulotomies (Following cataract surgery), plastic eye surgery and retina-vitreous complications. PDT (photo dynamic treatment) for macular degeneration is the latest available laser surgery. Cryosurgery (freezing) is available for the treatment of peripheral retina holes, small detachments and glaucoma.

Diagnostic tests include computerized digital video IV - Fluorescein and ICG angiographies utilizing intravenous contrast dyes to detect retina problems. Two computerized tests and one manual perimeter test are used for evaluation of the visual field in glaucoma and neurologic eye problems. Real-time ultrasound A and B-scan is used for measurements prior to intraocular lens implant surgery (cataract surgery) and to diagnose retinal detachments or tumors, etc. Other instruments are available for corneal evaluations and to analyze optic nerve head anomalies as seen in glaucoma.
