Expert Care for Women and Men
Fertility treatment focuses on restoring or bringing about fertility, or providing assisted reproductive technology to achieve
pregnancy. From comprehensive evaluation and routine screening and diagnostic tests to medication management and intricate
microsurgical procedures, Main Line Health provides a full range of fertility and reproductive services for women and men.
Our specialists provide the newest treatments available. These generally fall into four categories:
-
Fertility drugs
-
Surgery, to treat endometriosis, repair the reproductive tract, or remove lesions
-
Artificial insemination
-
Assisted reproductive technology, including IVF (in-vitro fertilization) and introcytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI)
Most cases of infertility are treated with conventional therapies, such as medication to induce ovulation or the surgical
repair of reproductive organs. Other couples may be able to conceive with the latest advances in assisted reproductive techniques.
Should You See a Fertility Specialist? You may be surprised to learn that one in 10 Americans experiences problems with fertility, affecting women and men equally.
In general, couples under age 35 should consult a fertility specialist, called a reproductive endocrinologist, after one year
of unprotected intercourse. Couples may want to seek advice after six months if they are over 35, have not conceived in previous
relationships, or have a history of gynecologic problems. There are no clear-cut rules for getting medical treatment. Discuss
your concerns with your personal physician, who can help you make an informed decision.
