According to the study, using Main Line Health's Fiscal Year 2005 spending and payroll data, along with a survey of Main Line Health employees and physicians:
The study was conducted by Tripp Umbach, a Pittsburgh-based research firm. In addition to providing economic impact analysis for 2005, the report also projects the economic impact of Main Line Health in 2010 and 2015, reflecting the System’s growth in new facilities and services. For example, the report projects that by 2015, Main Line Health will be directly and indirectly responsible for 25,000 jobs in the state, with an overall economic benefit of $1.5 billion. Main Line Health has recently announced proposals for new healthcare facilities in Concord Township and Newtown Township, both in Delaware County. In addition, Main Line Health’s current hospitals are each pursuing expansion and renovation plans to prepare for current and future community healthcare needs. "Everyone recognizes the healthcare benefits of hospitals," said Jack Lynch, president and CEO of Main Line Health, "but what is often overlooked is how important hospitals and healthcare are to our local economy. This study demonstrates the value of Main Line Health as a contributor to our regions overall quality of life."
