Mid County Senior Services' home support programs assist older adults in their homes with household chores, transportation, yard work and home repairs.

Started in 1992, the Chore Connection Program matches volunteers with older adults who need help with household chores, transportation to medical appointments, grocery shopping, yard work and minor home repairs. Older adults who are eligible for services are 60 years of age or older, low-income and have few other resources to help with needed tasks. Volunteers offer their services in the following ways:

  • Escorted transportation: volunteers drive older adults to medical appointments
  • Grocery shopping: volunteers take older adults shopping or go shopping for homebound older adults
  • Household chores: help with light cleaning, even windows!
  • Yard work: volunteers mow lawns, trim hedges and bushes, rake leaves and help with yard clean-up
  • Minor home repairs: install smoke detectors, paint, small plumbing jobs, and other odd jobs

Volunteers are extraordinary and caring people who can make a difference in the lives of older adults. Volunteers can choose from a variety of opportunities that will fit their schedules. Do you have some time, even one hour a month, to help a special person and make a new friend? Call today and find out how you can help!

The Handy Hands Registry was launched in 2001 and provides referrals for older adults who are looking for home repair and home support workers. All members on the Registry agree to provide reliable work for reasonable prices. Anyone who is 60 years of age or older can access the Registry free of charge.

MCSS' home support programs maintain Information Resources for older adults and caregivers that are looking for services. These resources include a database of services and agencies and a directory, Home Support Services for Older Adults in Delaware County, that is updated every two years and available free of charge.

There are many opportunities to get involved in your community to help older adults in their desire to remain living in their own homes. Call today to find out how!
