Cynthia D. Smith, MD, FACP is the Program Director for the Internal Medicine Residency Program. She received her M.D. degree from Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons. She served a residency in Internal Medicine at the Massachusetts General Hospital. She was an Instructor in Medicine at the Harvard Medical School and on staff at Massachusetts General Hospital prior to relocating to the Philadelphia area. She is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine. Dr. Smith is Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine at Thomas Jefferson University School of Medicine. Dr. Smith is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians. Dr. Smith was elected to the Council of the Association of Program Directors in Internal Medicine. William D. Surkis, MD is an Associate Program Director and a part-time Academic Hospitalist. Dr. Surkis received his BA degree in American Cultural Studies from Bates College in Lewistown, MA. He received his medical degree from MCP Hahnemann School of Medicine and served his internship and residency at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. He is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine. Dr. Surkis joined the faculty in 2008 after three years at Cooper University Hospital where he was an Assistant Professor of Medicine at UMDNJ – Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. Dr. Surkis has also assumed the role of Clerkship Director and works with the 3rd year medical students. |

Catherine L. Kuntz, MD, is an Associate Program Director. She is specifically in charge of the scholarly activity for the program as well as procedure training and compliance to meet the ABIM standards. Dr. Kuntz is also an active member of the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine and precepts the residents in the ICU. She graduated Summa Cum Laude in Biological Basis of Behavior from the University of Pennsylvania. She received her medical degree from HUP’s School of Medicine and served her internship, residency in Internal Medicine and Fellowship in Pulmonary, Allergy and Critical Care at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. She also received a master’s degree in Clinical Epidemiology and Biostatistics. |

Daniel C. Lazowick, DO, FACP, FACOI is the Director of Medical Education for Lankenau’s Osteopathic Program. Dr. Lazowick received his osteopathic degree from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine where he also served his internship. He then came to Lankenau for his residency in Internal Medicine. He joined the staff in 1997 and has been actively involved with our teaching program ever since. He is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine at Thomas Jefferson University School of Medicine and is on the Adjunct Faculty at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. Dr. Lazowick is boarded by the American Board of Internal Medicine as well as the American Osteopathic Board of Internal Medicine. He was recently appointed a Fellow in the American College of Osteopathic Internists. He is the Medical Director of Lankenau's Transitional Care Center.
